In his first game back in charge as interim manager, Frank Lampard brought back Sterling, but he was unable to prevent the Blues from losing 1-0 to Wolves on Saturday, continuing their dismal Premier League season.

The 28-year-old Raheem Sterling has only scored seven goals so far this season, but he provided the decisive first goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last month.

After moving from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge for £47.5 million, the English forward has had difficulty.

On Wednesday, they go to Real Madrid for the first leg of their quarterfinal, and Frank Lampard anticipates the former Liverpool player to deliver once more.

He’s risen to games like that before so that’s something we’ll obviously rely on because some elements of the squad are maybe a bit younger.

He’s certainly a player of a high level and understanding of the game that it won’t faze him.

He’s a top player. Raheem has shown what a player he is.

Frank Lampard said.

Yet after Matheus Nunes defeated the Blues at Molineux, he conceded that producing in Europe has no secret.

In 2012, when Chelsea finished sixth in an underwhelming league season, Lampard, then 44, won the Champions League with the team. At the time, Andre Villas-Boas had been replaced by Roberto Di Matteo.

There’s a lot to it. Part of that [2012 success] was we parked the bus at the Nou Camp and managed to hang on for our dear lives!

But we did have a huge desire, a big character and a level of talent in the group that had been striving for years to win a Champions League.

A team and a group will always go through tough moments to get to great ones.

Frank Lampard added.
